The Uptime Institute offers Enterprise
Uptime Management® engineering and management consulting services
aimed at maximizing the uptime, availability, and economic productivity of mission-critical
data centers.
Tier CertifiedTM or Site Resiliency CertifiedTM
Tier or Site Resiliency Certification rates a data center's design and operation against the Institute's Tier Classification and Operational Sustainability
Standards, which are internationally accepted industry standards and proven
predictors of data center investment value and actual site availability or
uptime performance. Certification performed by the Uptime Institute as a
third-party to data center site selection, design, construction and operation
provides a non-biased, vendor-neutral assessment. The Certification process
is carried out by the authors of the Tier and Operational Sustainability
Standards, who have guided billions of dollars in Tier III and Tier IV data
center investments. These experts bring both impartiality and knowledge of the
operational, cost, and energy efficiency of many possible design solutions.
Certification offers assurance to senior executives that promised project performance
commitments are matched by what is actually designed, built, and operated. This
avoids the misinterpretations, false claims, disappointments, and economic
losses common when a site is self-certified. Only sites listed by the
Institute on our website are Tier CertifiedTM or Site Resiliency CertifiedTM. (See also Design Document
Certification.)
Integrated Critical EnvironmentTM and ICE
TeamTM Consulting
The Institute offers
Integrated Critical EnvironmentTM and
ICE TeamTM management consulting services and educational
programs to guide companies wishing to obtain the proper alignment of the
strategic, operational, facilities, and IT spheres in enterprise data center
operations. Through Integrated Critical EnvironmentTM and ICE
TeamTM consultation and education, companies are provided with a way
of assessing the effectiveness of functions, incentives, policies, and
relationships, and companies can ensure that they establish the proper
foundation of goals and accountability to maximize uptime, availability
and effectiveness.
Site Analytics Validate EffectivenessTM
The Site
Analytics Validates EffectivenessTM (SAVETM) Program generates monthly and
quarterly site infrastructure energy-efficiency performance scorecards validated
by the Uptime Institute serving as a knowledgeable third-party. The Program is useful for standalone
facilities as well as for tenant data centers contained within larger buildings
and campuses. Benefits include the identification of specific savings
initiatives (especially those that can be done with no downtime and no capital
expenditures), with coaching on how to realize the savings identified; "hip-pocket"
site performance, savings, and peer comparisons for hallway conversations with
senior executives; quantitative energy dollar spending analyses that segregate items
under the direct control or influence of the facilities manager from those that
are not, which provides a fair basis for performance assessment; energy-efficiency
benchmarking to peer sites (with adjustments made for IT business and uptime
objectives, size, weather, equipment installed, configuration, heat density,
percent utilization, and other factors); tracking of facility manager-initiated
site-infrastructure energy savings (isolated from changes in IT load, which
would otherwise obscure any savings); and financial benchmarking of utility
rates and fees targeted to identify cost reductions. SAVE provides the
"Facility Efficiency" portion of the Corporate Average Datacenter Efficiency (CADE)
metric.
Custom Consulting by the Institute's
Principals and Fellows
The Institute offers strategic business,
management, and engineering consultation with special emphasis on Corporate
Average Data Center Efficiency (CADE) to information technology, finance,
corporate real estate, and facilities end-users. The Institute also provides
end-user consulting on long-range planning, charge-back, and optimal
organization; Information Technology Resource Library (ITIL); data center
assessment; new project or upgrade justification and implementation; education,
knowledge communities and training; and benchmarking/gap analysis.
The Institute provides industry stakeholders
with product reviews, focus groups, research paper development, keynote speakers,
private seminars, and other customized services.
